Yoshie - Rescued from Auction 09/05/09 for $15.00

10/31/2009 - Yoshie is doing great.  We have given him a buddy now.  Little foot.  Yoshie is still on 4 feedings a day but in the next couple weeks we plan to back him down 3 feedings.  He's almost full weight, he feels great and even runs around now.  See more pictures below.

10/07/09: Well things have been pretty quiet for Yoshie.  He's eating grain well.  He don't seem to graze alot or eat alot of hay.  He is on about 2 1/2 scoops of Equine Senior a day and has free choice of grass and hay.  He is really sweet and hollers at you for his grain.  He knows he gets feed 4 times a day and if you late he will let you know.  See the new pictures below.  He has improved a ton, but it's hard to see in the pictures, but believe me he has.

09/16/09: I can tell already this little guy is putting weight on.  I am going to take new pictures this weekend so we can compare.  The change is slight, but I can see it.  He's actually becoming a brat.  He's getting stronger and more insistant on his grain feedings.  He's really great.  We are all happy to have him.

09/12/09: Yoshie got his last dose of Panicure for his Bloodworms.  He reared up to avoid the wormer.  He's getting stronger everyday.  When he's full from grass now, he will just stand and stair at the feed door waiting for you to bring him his grain. lol

09/10/09:  Talked to the vet this afternoon about the bloodwork and he says all is pretty normal.  only thing he wanted to treat is the blood worms which he is on the 5 day panicur pack for it.  He said to just feed him.  Give him all the grass and hay he will eat get him up to 2 scoops of equine senior a day.  we are feeding him the grain in 5 to 6 feedings a day so to try to avoid colic. When we asked the vet to verify his age as we were told 30, he looked at his teeth and said "Old as hell" he wouldn't put a number on it.  LOL  He's been doing great.  He seems to have more energy already.

09/08/09: Vet visit done.  Vet does not see any obvious illness's.  Blood work has been taken and will let us know what it comes back as.  He says he's old as hell, but still should not be in this sort of shape.  He says he looks starved.  He has a very bad case of worms, and a case of rain rot.  He wants him to get all the hay he can eat, and grass if we have it.  He wants him up to 2 scoops of Senior feed a day.  We will be doing this all slowly. He gave us a 5 day Panacure pack to give him for the worms.  He said providing his blood work appears normal he should start gaining weight.  He does not want to mess with his teeth because in a pony this old it can do more harm than good.  So he is being moved into our goat pen and will have time in the back yard for grass grazing and then hay in his pen.  We will slowly work him up to the grain.  My SO voiced his concerns about founder and the Vet insits a pony this poor should not founder on this feed program.  So I'm hopefull for now, we'll see what blood work comes back as, but I'm crossing my fingers.  Whether he has 6 months or 10+ years, he will have a much better life from here on out.

09/07/09: We first saw this pony at an auction.  A comment of "the owners should be ashamed of themselves" sparked a large argument with the owners.  They claimed they took good care of this pony and fed it.  They said he's old like 30, and it broke their heart to bring him to an auction to SELL because they could no longer care for this pony any longer.  I asked why did you wait til he was in this poor of shape to try to find a new home for them?  They kept saying they took care of him he's just old.  I said then why didn't you put him down instead of letting him suffer into this condition?  Anyway.... long story short we bid on him and got him for $15.  He is now with us, and is getting hay and grain, and will be going to the vet to find out if he has any other issues on Tuesday.  Pray for this little guy. If he is to far gone we will put him down, but will give him all the love he needs until that is determined.  We are hopeful that he just was poorly taken care of and in 6 months to a year will have all his weight back.  He's super super sweet, and whinnies all the time to us.  He seems in good spirits and has a wiliness to eat.  Pictures are sad.
