Information:

10/07: Star has matured into a lovely, healthy yearling. 12/06: After 2 weeks of camouflaging Mare & Foal in her hay, she is now eating a gallon of grain a day. I was so desperate, she was nothing but skin and bones and now has gained a lot of her weight back. Finally can wean her. 08/06: Can’t wean Star until she is eating grain. Still very thin. 07/06: Extremely worried about Star. She will not eat grain, only hay. She refused the crackers and licorice. I tried pelleted feed, mash, molasses, combinations, still sticks her nose up at all of it. Good grief, she takes the wormers fine and that stuff has to be rank. She is extremely thin. Vet started her on Probias. 04/06: Star had a rough start to the world. Her dam rejected her and would not let her nurse. After much effort, we tried another maiden mare (with a foal a month old), Haley, to see if she would nurse her. Haley was up for the challenge. She started right in caring for Star. The trio did well. Haley did get that “Lord why 2 of them” look on her face, ever so often, but was an awesome mom and saved Star’s life.
